Cycling in Colorado

After leaving the Utah desert and a quick overnight in Blanding, UT we headed across the UT/CO border and cycled into Colorado into the little town of Dove Creek.

The desolation of northern Arizona and Utah was amazingly beautiful but, now that we have arrived in a more built up area, we are luxuriating with grocery stores and towns! And the towns come with Warm Showers hosts, the first of which we stayed with in Dove Creek. Pastor Gregg took care of us for 2 nights and we used one of his vehicles to get into Cortez and visit a bike shop. He also made us great pinto beans, as he lives in the pinto bean capital! After Dove Creek, we cycled across Disappointment Valley and camped for 1 night in Naturita, CO, followed by another Warm Showers host – Kelvin in Norwood. A nice ride from Norwood brought us to the pretty town of Ridgway, where we stayed at our third Warm Showers host – Debbie’s beautiful home in downtown, with amazing mountain views. And an easy cycle from there brought us to the larger town of Montrose where we enjoyed 2 great nights with Rod & Judy, who host many cyclists from Warm Showers.
